Fire Protection Engineering

  • Design, specification and project management of fire detection and alarm systems in a wide range of premises, including offices, factories, shopping centres, hospitals, university residences, computer centres and major places of worship.
  • Investigations of troublesome systems including false alarm problems.
  • Inspections and audits of systems to determine compliance with British Standards.

Education and Training

  • Public seminars and in-house specialist courses on fire legislation, fire precautions and fire protection systems.
  • Periodic training of staff as required by legislation.
  • Fire drills.

Standards Development

  • Preparation of draft standards for BSI, including BS 5839 Parts 1, 6 and 9, BS 5446-3, BS 7273-4 and PAS79.
  • Preparation of various in-house codes and standards for industrial and commercial clients.
  • Preparation of guidance document on fire precautions in houses in multiple occupation for around 40 local authorities in the East Midlands.

Research

  • Research into the use of halons in the UK and the scope for substitution on behalf of the Department of the Environment.
  • Research into the performance of arrangements for automatic transmission of fire signals to the fire service.

Expert Opinion

  • Advice and evidence in connection with a dispute over late delivery of a ship resulting from deficiencies in the fire and gas detection system.
  • Advice to solicitors on fire safety in fine art storage.
  • Advice in relation to an adjudication over a fire alarm system in a hall of residence.
  • Various other expert witness services in relation to litigation and arbitration.

Information for Clients

  • For clients with whom there is an ongoing relationship, we provide a quarterly newsletter, updating clients on major changes to legislation, standards and codes of practice that might affect them. The newsletter also contains short articles on fire safety topics of interest to clients.
