4.5 day FRA Course (In-House)

Home Our ServicesTraining4.5 day Fire Risk Assessment Course (In-House)
Image

This comprehensive course can be delivered in-house and is designed to enable persons with basic knowledge in fire safety principles and practice to apply their skills competently in conducting or auditing fire risk assessments.  As part of the course, delegates undertake a practical workshop exercise, and their competence is tested by written examination on the final day.

The course focuses on fire risk assessments in commercial premises and considers residential premises.

The course is recognized by the Institution of Fire Engineers for the purpose of their Register of Fire Risk Assessors and Auditors. Please note, the Institution of Fire Engineers have recently changed their requirements for entry onto the Register of Fire Risk Assessors. All new applicants need to have applied to or be registered with the Engineering Council as EngTech. Whilst we are happy to discuss this on the course, the course itself does not cover the Engineering Council application requirements. The Fire Risk Assessment course attracts 29.5 IFE CPD hours, 29.5 FIA CPD hours and 29.5 FireQual CPD Hours, though it does not provide a regulated qualification.

Who will benefit from attending?

    • Fire risk assessors.
    • Fire safety consultants.
    • Fire & rescue service enforcement officers.
    • Building control officers.
    • Facilities & building managers.
    • Health & safety consultants and advisors.

Learning Outcomes

Delegates will develop:

    • An awareness of relevant fire safety legislation.
    • An understanding of the principles, and scope of fire risk assessments.
    • An understanding of hazard and risk.
    • A basic understanding of means of escape and fire protection measures.
    • A pragmatic approach that can be adopted towards the assessment of fire prevention, fire protection and management of fire safety.

On completion of the course, results are issued electronically, usually within four weeks of the examination date. All places on courses must be booked and paid in advance.

Pre-requisites

It is assumed that delegates on this course already an understanding of fire safety. Accordingly, the objective of the course is to transfer basic skills in fire safety into the culture of fire risk assessment. However, some of the relevant fundamental principles of fire safety are reviewed during the course. The Government guides to fire safety legislation would provide useful background reading and are recommended pre-course reading. These are:

For England and Wales:

    • Fire safety risk assessment: sleeping accommodation.
    • Fire safety risk assessment: offices and shops.

For Scotland:

    • Fire safety guidance for existing premises with sleeping accommodation.
    • Practical fire safety guidance for existing non-residential premises.

For Northern Ireland:

    • Fire safety risk assessment: sleeping accommodation.
    • Fire safety risk assessment: offices and shops.

Included in the cost:

    • the provision of two tutors for a total of four days, including all travel, accommodation and subsistence;
    • an extensive set of course notes for each delegate;
    • an examination paper for each delegate;
    • examination marking;
    • one-to-one mentoring for any delegate who fails the course test; and
    • fresh examination papers for delegates who fail the course test and subsequent re-marking of their papers.

Presentation equipment would be required (computer connected to a PowerPoint projector and a flipchart or white board and pens) and on the final half day, an invigilator would be required to oversee the course examination; usually clients invigilate this final day themselves, but if you require us to do this, it can be arranged, at an additional cost.   The trainer will bring their own laptop if required.

This course assumes prior knowledge of basic fire safety principles on the part of delegates.  Thus, for example, we would not teach the principles of means of escape or fire alarm systems, as it would be assumed that all delegates were familiar with the relevant codes of practice and principles such as travel distance, calculation of exit widths, etc.

Please note that the maximum number that can be accommodated on this course is 20 delegates; there is no minimum number.

Our cancellation policy for face to face training is that two months’ notice must be given, after which, we reserve the right to charge the training in full.
