C. S. Todd & Associates Ltd (CSTA) is a practice of independent consultants. Formed in 1982, we specialize solely in fire safety and fire engineering. Being independent of any manufacturer, supplier or installer, we are able to offer unbiased opinion on all aspects of fire safety. The strength of the services we offer lies in the wide spectrum of experience and knowledge of our team of consultants. The practice is a registered firm under BS EN ISO 9001.
The practice offers consultancy services in all aspects of fire safety, including fire risk assessments, surveys and audits, fire safety design and management, fire engineering/fire safety strategies, specifications for fire protections systems, fire detection and alarms and gaseous extinguishing systems, and fire training. The practice also carries out investigations of existing systems. In addition to these services, we provide expert witness (for defence or prosecution) in cases involving alleged offences under fire safety legislation, and for civil litigation.
Colin Todd, MBE, formed the practice after gaining many years of experience in risk management and fire protection engineering. The dedicated team he has brought together has both technical expertise and hands-on experience in the fire sector. They include both chartered engineers and fire safety professionals with local authority fire and rescue service experience. Our policy is that consultants undertaking fire risk assessments are all listed on the IFE’s register of fire risk assessors. Newer members of the team may be in the process of applying to the register.
We were the first consultancy practice to be registered with BAFE for the design and verification of fire detection and alarm systems under the BAFE SP203 scheme in 2002.
The practice was certificated in 2013 by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) under the UKAS accredited scheme for companies that carry out fire risk assessments, BAFE SP205
