The importance of Continued Professional Development (CPD) continues to play a critical role within the field of fire safety. We hold an annual event for all staff, with the aim being we take some time to take stock of the last year, look forward to the next year and discuss critical topics within the industry. We held our annual CPD event on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th November. It was great to have the majority of the company gathered together and spend some time catching up face to face.
Foundation and Intermediate Fire Risk Assessment to BS 8674:2025 training dates now available.
We were delighted that Andy Fox IEng FIFireE, who is a director of the practice and Head of Specialist Training, won Fire Safety Professional of the Year at the The Institute of Fire Safety Managers – IFSM AGM on 1 October 2025. The prize was collected by Colin Todd on Andy’s behalf, but we are now pleased to confirm that the award has been passed directly to Andy. Well done Andy!
On 3 October 2025, our Managing Director, Colin Todd, was pleased to be invited as the keynote speaker at the AGM of the British Fire Consortium. At the request of the organisers, he explained, briefly, the background to his entry into the fire safety profession 50 years ago, after which he delivered an enlightening presentation on the history of many of the numbers (maximum and minimum of many parameters) that are enshrined in fire safety codes, finishing with a thought provoking perspective of the questionable statistical basis for classification of blocks of flats over 18 metres in height as higher risk buildings.
Continued partnership with Trees for Life
At the end of May, having reached the end of our financial year, we are delighted to have added to our Trees for Life grove to help rewild the Caledonian Forest.
Two trees for every member of staff will be planted at the flagship Dundreggan Estate near Loch Ness in beautiful Glenmoriston. Our saplings will be planted alongside other young, native trees, transforming open hillsides into healthy young woodland, rich in wildlife such as red squirrel, black grouse, capercaillie, wood ants and twinflower. Once the trees reach maturity, natural regeneration will go on to create the wild forests of the future for generations to enjoy.
If you are interested in donating a tree, details can be found https://treesforlife.org.uk/

This is a very major accolade that reflects the enormous efforts of our Admin, Deliverables and Technical teams, all members of whom bring not only great skill to their jobs, but huge commitment and a willingness to go the extra mile to help clients, contribute to the fire safety profession and, ultimately, to do their very best to enhance safety of the public from fire, the latter of which is the DNA of the entire practice.
The evening was enjoyed by Colin Todd, Dave Norgate, Dave Thorpe, Lucy Cowell, Malcolm Hoare (just retired) and Jules Attwell, with the company of respective partners.
